Some Advice for Communication Graduates

Nicole Jordan recently offered seven bits of “Advice for Graduating PR Students.” Like usual, I think these reminders are particularly relevant for public relations, journalism and other recent graduates who are moving into a communication profession:

  1. Read Brian Solis’ “Putting the Public Back in Public Relations.”
  2. Follow-through.
  3. Understand the entire scope of your digital portfolio and watch it.
  4. Read. A lot.
  5. Don’t get impatient.
  6. Try out other departments.
  7. Remember the professional world is small and “your reputation is your strongest currency.”

I’ll be stressing some of these in my classes again this coming semester. Get ready to get ready!
