Jason Winocour with Hunter Public Relations wrote a short post for the Bulldog Reporter’s Daily ‘Dog arguing that public relations “must lead the way in social media—now.” He noted three reasons why PR has the power to do it:
- Practitioners are trained in the principles of dialogue (two- or many-way communication) as opposed to monologue (one-way communication).
- Social media is media, which means content is king.
- PR is all about the soft sell, and so is social media.
I still argue that social media is all about the relationships and that’s what public relations is (and should be) about … the relationships between organizations and the publics on whom the organization’s success or failure depends.
